Comments:My grandfather Doug Phillips worked in the mine in Nordegg for several years before it closed. My great Uncle William was one of the miners lost in the explosion in 1941. I am the youngest Daugher of Dougs daughter Debbie. I took the mine tour in late July and it was very informative, my 9 year old son enjoyed it as well. We also enjoy camping at the old miners campground near Shunda Creek.

Comments:Lived in Nordegg from 1929 to 1947. Worked in the mine until they were about to close down. My Dad, Edward, brothers George and Vincent all moved to Calgary in 1947. My Dad was a miner at the time of the explosion. He and Jim Ashmore were one of the first men down to rescue the trapped miners. 39 miners perished. Our families returned over the years for reunions sponsored by the Nordegg Recreation Society. My brothers and I used to round up wild horses on Brewsters Flats. We broke and sold them. At the time we left, there were no major roads...just a wagon trail from Rocky to Nordegg. I was with old Silas Abraham, the old Indian chief when we took the Alpine clubs out from the USA out the passes. The big dam at Nordegg was named after my friend Silas Abraham "Abraham Lake".

Comments:I loved reading the comments in your guest book. I was born in Saunders Creek in 1945. My father was Fred DeMarchi mother Dilys. I also lived in Nordegg in a house that was situated on the field near where baseball was played, close to the entrance to Nordegg. I have been trying to find anyone born in or raised near Saunders Creek and was so happy to see one of your signers to the guest book was born there. I will wait and hope that he contacts me. Thank you for this wonderful web site.

Comments:My Dad Bill (Wasyl) Grosul lived in Nordegg at the time of the mines. He tells us he "grew up" here. He loved Nordegg and had great memories of living and working there. Unfortunately it all dies with him and his ashes are buried on Bald Mountain, over looking the town. If anyone reading this note knew or remembers my dad, I would love to hear from you. Judy
